Manhattan Magician
Manhattan Magician is my alter ego and along with my wife’s Mother Goose NYC we do kids shows for the community. I think we live in an age where a lot of the true magic has been lost. Everyone is looking for the trick, the secret behind how it works. Which is fine. But it doesn’t change the fact there really is still magic.
I think that’s what Harry Houdini believed. On the one hand as a conjuror he was cynical about spiritualism and spent much of his time in later years exposing fraudulent psychics. Yet, through it all I believe he still wanted to believe. A big part of the fun living in Northern NYC in Inwood Manhattan is for meĀ the fact of knowing that just a few blocks away is the former Bessie Houdini residence.
Bessie spent the last ten years of her life as the widow of Houdini, trying through seances every Halloween to bring him back from the great beyond. When my wife Alison and I did our Halloween parade for East and West of Broadway, a part of our inspiration was the Houdinis.
